Editing Blog

Image
To start editing, I first had to transfer the files from my phone onto my laptop. I had trouble transferring the files at first, having never done this. It would glitch out, and the only way I managed to transfer the files was if I unlocked the phone, plugged it in, then locked the phone. The next step was to find a suitable editing software. I tried Clipchamp, however I quickly realized that the free version does not support 4k exports, which was the resolution we had filmed in. Therefore, I chose to use an editing software called OpenShot, which fixes this issue. Being unfamiliar with this software, I had to watch a quick 10-minute YouTube video about the basics.       With the editing software in hand, I imported all the footage onto the timeline and cut all the footage until it met the length required and looked natural. I reviewed all the takes and eliminated the ones I didn’t like. We had more than enough usable footage t...

Filming Blog

As the cameraman, I brought a tripod and some water for everyone. We met on Saturday, the 21st of September, at Holiday Park for filming, at around 1pm. I was the cameraman and director for the entire filming process. I directed the angles and operated the tripod. The tripod was broken to an extent, as one of its legs would constantly fall off, making it very finicky to work with. I used the tripod for all but one of the shots, along with my phone serving as the camera. I took multiple shots of some of the scenes to experiment with the distance the camera was from the subject, among other variables.        My phone overheated at times, and I had to pause filming till it cooled down. It luckily cooled down rather quickly, As I put it in the cooler along with some icepacks that were there.       Since we had acquired 5 bottles of Gatorade, each of a different color, I had to film one of the scenes multiple times, with each o...

Filming Preparations Blog

Before the filming process, I prepared my tripod. Since I had not used the tripod in a while, I had to take it out and make sure that it was in working order. This took a while since I forgot where I had left it, having not used it for many years. I therefore had to relearn how to operate it. Luckily, it was only slightly damaged, having a leg that tended to fall off. I was able to provide a short-term solution to this by fixing the leg on with some duct tape. With this solution, the tripod was able to rest securely. The tripod has adjustable legs, along with a lever you can spin to precisely adjust its height, essential for such a project.       I also prepared a cooler with water for everyone. This would also serve as a place to keep the Gatorade cool from the heat, and keep us all hydrated.        Once the storyboard was created by me and my groupmates, I wanted to ensure we could make the 30-second requirement. I there...

Scene 1:   The camera is looking down at the ground. The ground is bare, and there’s little movement.   Scene 2:   The camera tilts to show someone setting a soccer ball with their foot. The ball is placed carefully as the camera lingers on it for a moment.   Scene 3:     A close-up of player 1, who is visibly sweaty, emphasizes their exhaustion. Audio of player 1 breathing heavily plays in the background.   Scene 4:   The audio bridges into the next shot. The next shot is from player 1’s point of view, looking at the goalkeeper (player 2 ). This shot is at a Dutch angle, adding tension and unease. The camera's movement is unstable, mimicking player 1’s disoriented state. There are blurring effects to further emphasize that player 1 is dehydrated.   Scene 5:   An eye-level shot is taken from player 1’s side. A whistle blows, signaling a timeout. Player 1 is thrown a bottle of Gatorade from behind the camera. They catch it and open ...
