What titles are displayed during the opening sequences? 

This opening sequence is unique, in that it starts with the actors' names, being Cillian Murphy, Sigourney Weaver, and Robert De Niro. Then the studio name and the title of the film, “Red Lights” is displayed, followed by the names of the rest of the actors. Afterwards, the credits for casting, sound design, production design, editing, music, director of photography, executive producer, executive producer, produced by, written by and directed by are shown in this order. 

What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? 

Throughout this opening sequence, images of flashing lights, human anatomy, mathematical equations, and religious figures are prioritized.  

How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset? 

Music plays a key role in creating the feeling of a thriller film in this opening sequence. The music starts immediately with high shrills and a powerful, suspenseful bass line. The music also incorporates tense, repeated melodic phrases with abrupt crescendos. Visual elements such as quick editing and flashing text add to the tense mood. These elements combined create an uneasy atmosphere, establishing the feeling of a thriller movie.

      Fusion page in DaVinci Resolve      Using titles in Davinci Resolve is something I have never done before, so I did some research before starting. I naturally turned to YouTube and picked up the basics rather quickly. However, I felt that 2d titles on a screen would be quite plain, so I tried to challenge myself to create 3 dimensional titles that are fixed within space. To see if such a thing is even possible using Resolve, I did some research and found that it is indeed possible using the fusion tab in resolve. Fusion in Resolve is a node based vfx tool, which means the image is passed through a series of nodes before reaching the output. The main node that I would use is called the planar tracker. To use this, I first had to attach the node to the input.
